Football card collectibles — “American football” as much of the world knows it — are popular year around, but especially as the autumn football season approaches and builds to winter’s Super Bowl. Vintage (pre-1970) pro football cards are especially attractive to many collectors, young and old.
As a kid myself, WAAAAAYYYY back in the 1950s, I was more of a baseball fan than a football fan. These days, baseball cards, hockey cards, basketball cards, soccer cards, and many other sports cards have joined the ranks of bona fide collectibles. Where ever you find sports fans and whatever sports they love — you can generally find collectible cards to meet their interests. (My devotion to baseball cards changed more toward football with the so-called “Game of the Century” NFL championship game of 1958 when the Baltimore Colts beat the New York Giants in the first-ever sudden death overtime.)
These days, my taste in sports and collectible sports cards or other memorabilia focuses on professional football, pro baseball — and a lot of college football. (Most notably, my wife and I are BIG Boise State University football fans. We met while attending BSU and she was in their first 4-year graduating class in 1967.)
